Our take on standardization
Standardization! Let’s talk about it. What is it? Who’s standard is it?
In fashion, standardization means using consistent measurements to define clothing sizes. Sounds simple, right? But here’s the catch: true standardization across the entire industry doesn’t actually exist. Every brand has its own system, and that means sizes can vary wildly from one brand to the next.
After listening closely to our customers, we realized it was time to take a closer look at our own sizing. We started by revisiting our “Medium” dress form, adjusting our fit based on those base measurements. But we didn’t stop there! We have been testing our garments on real people, with real bodies, to see how they moved and felt in the clothes.
Since the industrialization of fashion, curvier sizes have often been overlooked, or handled poorly. To this day, most commercial dress forms stop at a size 26 (with a 53" bust), and many manufacturers don’t test fit beyond a size 10. The result? Curvy sizes that are ill fitting or poorly made.
That’s why we created Sewsie, our very own 6X dress form, to help us thoughtfully design pieces up to size 6X (which we’ll be calling a “6” by the time our fall collection rolls around🤞🏻). Our goal isn’t to conform to an outdated, problematic system - but to create our own consistent, inclusive sizing system that works for real people.
This is just the beginning! Stay tuned as we continue sharing updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes looks at how this project unfolds. We can’t wait to take you along for the ride.
